Kaindy Lake

1 day
from $ 295
300km from the city of Almaty

Kaindy from the Kazakh language means "Birch". So what does it have to do with them if they were eating all around? - you say. The fact is that a large birch grove is planted 5 km below the lake. In general, the way to this amazing place is no less picturesque. You will drive or ride through the forest, along the river, past the thicket and more and more new views will open up to your eyes.

Kaindy Lake is another pearl of the Tien Shan. The object attracts the attention of tourists with its unique appearance – flooded fir trees, the trunks of which stick out of the water and resemble the masts of ships. The lake surface itself regularly changes color and is often a very beautiful blue color. This strange coloring is caused by lime and other minerals that were in the water a hundred years ago. But as soon as you get closer to the lake, the water becomes crystal clear, you can often see trout in it.This place is popular with divers. But it is impossible to dive here without a wetsuit. The water temperature even in summer reaches +6 degrees.

Every tour here is a long adventure!

About Kaindy Lake
Kazia Tour organizes individual and group excursions from Almaty and around the city.

During the tour:

  • The guide will meet you in the lobby of your hotel. And we will go on the road for adventures. Probably, this tour is one of their most intense interactive program and views. The road will lead to East. On the left Alatau mountains will stretch , which will decorate your train to its destination. Two hours drive to Bayseit village. On the way, you will be able to stop at gas stations, cafes, open small markets.
  • In an hour you will pass Charyn Canyon. We often do an extended tour with its visit (only in spring and summer). This adds about 1 more.5. hours. But if you are limited in time or want to save energy only for the lake, then we will continue our way through the Kokpek pass to the Saty village. The road from Almaty to Saty takes about 3-4 hours.
  • We will have a hearty lunch at the guest house. We will experience the famous Kazakh hospitality. We'll drink tea in Kazakh and we won't even want to leave here. But that's not why we're here, is it? )) - Therefore, we will move towards Kaindy Lake. The road is quite broken. Be prepared for this. 12km jeep rides for about 30min. This is through hummocks, rubble, a river. That's what wild tourism is!
  • Arriving at the parking lot, we will continue our journey on horseback. Of course, you can also walk. But 3km up is a bit tedious. And why not feel like a nomad in such colorful places? On the way, we will take photos and videos against the background of fantastic panoramic views. We will be accompanied by an instructor and will keep your horse on a leash. Therefore, even for the first time, everyone will succeed.
  • A walk by the lake. Rest, photo shoot. The guide will show you a few more views. A panorama. Raspberries, barberry, sea buckthorn grow along the way - you can eat, but there is no time to get carried away. We look and return on foot or take a horse both ways.
  • Travel to the village on vacation. Supper. Rest by the campfire.
  • Arrival to the city. On the way, you can buy koumiss (mare's milk, homemade butter, honey - only the spring and summer season). Tell me in advance if you need it.

    We spent a great day!
I had a great experience with my guide, Gulzat. She is very polite, kind and caring person. She replied me very quick any time. I came to Almaty from Japan alone. I was a little bit nervous before but I was very relieved by her support. She invited me to a nice riverside lunch on the way to Big Almaty Lake. I had an amazing afternoon. The lake was beautiful ....
Kaindy Lake is a natural lake located in the Kolsay Lakes National Park, about 300 kilometers east of Almaty, Kazakhstan. The lake is known for its unique beauty, as it is a rare example of a flooded forest.

The lake was formed as a result of the Kemin earthquake in 1911, which caused a landslide that blocked the Kaindy River and created a natural dam. The water that accumulated behind the dam flooded the forest that grew in the area, creating a beautiful and at the same time creepy landscape that can be seen to this day. The sight of these trees submerged in water creates a surreal and otherworldly feeling, as if you are exploring the underwater world.

However, this lake is a truly wonderful sight, with its crystal clear water and flooded forest, creating a unique and beautiful landscape. The turquoise blue-green color of the lake, surrounded by the lush greenery of the surrounding forest, creates a picturesque view that is truly breathtaking.

The lake is about 400 meters long and up to 30 meters deep. The water in the lake is crystal clear and has a blue-green color, which makes it a popular place for divers and photographers. Visitors can rent boats and explore the lake or go hiking in the surrounding forest.

Kaindy Lake is a popular tourist destination and can be visited all year round. The best time to visit is in the spring and summer months, when the weather is mild and the lake is the cleanest. Visitors can hike to the lake. Swimming in the lake is prohibited to preserve its fragile ecosystem, but visitors can enjoy other outdoor activities such as fishing, camping and hiking in the surrounding mountains.

You only need a good mood and free time to get to Kaindy Lake. We take care of everything else!
